08/12/2006: Leaked UN Police Document Reveals Al Qaeda Arrest in Kosovo

(Balkanalysis.com Security & Intelligence Brief 11) A leaked police document created by the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) police force states that a recent house search turned up al Qaeda-related materials.

The internationally-governed province has become a safehaven for Islamic extremists, security experts say, even though the majority of its Albanian Muslims are pro-Western and irreligious.

The UN police report, marked Case Ref. # 54401, states that in Talinovc village, Ferizaj region, a search was conducted at 14:00 hours on August 7.

Conducted at the house of a K-Albanian male,” and authorized by the Public Prosecutor’s office, the search turned up items “in connection to” Osama bin Laden’s terrorist organization.

Apparently these items, the nature of which were not specified, were wrapped in newspaper. The investigation continues, the police report says.
