02/16/2008: Bulgaria to Host SEECP Meeting of Defense Ministers in March02/16/2008: Bulgaria to Host SEECP Meeting of Defense Ministers in March (Balkanalysis.com Security & Intelligence Brief 25) Bulgaria, current chairman of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), is set to host a meeting of Balkan defense ministers on March 11, according to an announcement from the country’s defense ministry. The meeting, called “Defense Policy: For Security, Cooperation and Development of South East Europe”, is to be “the first high-level meeting offering an opportunity for the region to identify the priorities in the field of defense and to review the existing mechanisms in this sphere,” reports Xinhua, adding that a key priority of the Bulgarian SEECP chairmanship is “to strengthen regional stability and enhance regional cooperation in close interaction with the European Union. This will be carried out in the context of the current transformation of regional cooperation in South East Europe and the application of the principle of regional identity. “ |
